Summer Dog Days Are Here! Evolution Home Teams Up With the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria
The week of July 27th, Evolution Home is turning the store into a celebration of our wonderful companions and friends. We're calling it Summer Dog Days, and we're partnering with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) to make it count for dogs who are still waiting for a home to call their own!
What's Happening at the Store
Stop Evolution Home during our week-long Summer Dog Days event for:
- Pup cups — your dog deserves a treat for putting up with your shopping habit!
- Cutest dog & owner lookalike photo contests — think your dog is cute? Think you look alike? Bring them to the store and enter our cutest dogs and owner lookalike contests for a chance to win a gift card!
- Select discounts on animal- and outdoor-themed merchandise!
- Shelter donation boxes set up throughout the store, so you can drop off supplies for the wonderful animals at the AWLA!

Why We're Partnering With AWLA
The AWLA is marking 80 years of helping pets and people this year, and this milestone is part of what's inspiring Summer Dog Days. The organization operates out of 4101 Eisenhower Ave in Alexandria, with adoption hours beginning at noon every day except Wednesday, and they take in animals of every kind, not just dogs, from across the region.
AWLA does more than just adoptions. They also run behavior and training help, vaccination and wellness clinics, wildlife and animal control services, a community pet pantry, and spay/neuter assistance! This essential work keeps animals out of shelters in the first place, or gets them home faster when something goes wrong. Meet a Few Dogs Ready for Adoption
Right now, adoptions are open at AWLA, including for six dogs you might recognize from our newsletter: Bruno, Fenix, Hector, Roscoe, Trixie, and Ginger! Every one of them is looking for the same companionship and love that any prospective dog-adopter is looking for themselves.

If you're not ready to adopt but want to help anyway, AWLA can always use donated supplies, volunteer hours, or a simple financial gift. Our shelter donation boxes make the supplies part easy: just bring what you can when you come in for pup cups and photo contests!

Looking for a new buddy! My name is Bruno and I am looking for a home where I can get lots of love, plenty of playtime and cuddles galore. I'm a bit of a shy guy who takes a little time to get to know new people. I do warm with a slower approach and am a real sweetheart when I warm up. I'm a handsome pup sporting a white coat with brown patches and soft floppy ears. I have lived harmoniously with children of varying ages in my previous home and it has been reported that I have pretty good house manners and am crate trained. Some of my favorite games are fetch, tug and chase. I like going on walks and tend to explore the world around me with my nose. I am going to make an excellent companion for a special someone. I want all your attention, so I would like to be your one and only dog, so if you are looking for a loving and loyal companion who will brighten up your days, consider me! |

If you're looking for a companion with a big heart, goofy personality, beefy body type, and an endless supply of slobber, Hector is your dude. This handsome, smush-faced sweetheart is happiest when he's by your side (despite his perma-grumpy face). Whether he's greeting you with enthusiastic kisses, curling up next to you on the couch, or snoring his way through an afternoon nap, Hector loves being close to people. Hector promises you will never have to do anything alone ever again! You're going to the kitchen? Fantastic! So is he! Bathroom? Just follow him! Hector is crate trained and mostly house trained, and he could settle into home life with ease. He is a little shy at first so appreciate someone who gives him a little time to warm. He enjoys playing fetch and chasing after toys with gusto and adorable little hippy hops. Hector would thrive in a home with another playful dog who enjoys rough-and-tumble wrestling games. His favorite style of play is full-contact, WWE-inspired wrestling, so a canine companion of similar size and play style would be the perfect match. With his lovable personality, gentle heart, and playful spirit, Hector would make a wonderful addition to a variety of families. |

Hey there! My name is Fenix and I am a stunning white dog with brown spots who is sure to turn heads when you walk me down the street. I am looking for a home where I can be part of a loving family. But because I want all of your attention for myself, I need to be in adults-only home. I have lived with a small dog in my previous home, but just to be on the safe side, if you have another dog I would really like to meet him or her prior to leaving the shelter. I am an active dog who loves going on walks -- be it a stroll around the neighborhood or a hike in the woods. As long as I am getting exercise and am with my best friend, I am a happy dog! And I have been told that I have really good leash manners. I am also a smart do who already knows the cues for sit and down. And I am very gentle when taking treats from you.
