Thomasville Hepplewhite Federal Style Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Sideboard with Brass Gallery, Circa 1980s–1990s
Dimensions: 42" H × 66" W × 24" D
At 66 inches wide and five and a half feet tall with the brass gallery, this Thomasville sideboard makes a genuine statement. The inlaid mahogany sideboard features two large cabinets on each end for storage with bellflower decorations down the top portion of the fluted legs, two spacious dovetailed drawers in the middle with original brass pulls, and a stunning brass gallery backsplash. The serpentine front is the centerpiece of the design — that sinuous, triple-curved case that defined the most ambitious Federal and Hepplewhite sideboards of the late 18th century, here executed in deeply figured flame mahogany that practically pulses with movement in the light. Book-matched crotch mahogany veneers on the drawer faces and door panels are arranged so the grain patterns mirror each other, a detail that requires both careful stock selection and skilled hand-laying.
The piece features a serpentine front with an inlaid bellflower design on fluted legs and brass hardware. Those bellflower drops — cascading down the legs in delicately inlaid satinwood — are among the most characteristic ornaments of the Hepplewhite vocabulary, borrowed directly from the neoclassical designs that Robert Adam popularized in Britain and that American craftsmen like Samuel McIntire and Duncan Phyfe translated into the Federal idiom. Thomasville reproduced this language faithfully and at a scale that still holds up against the best period reproduction makers. The brass gallery rail along the top back edge adds both a visual flourish and a practical touch — useful for displaying silver, decanters, or candlesticks without the risk of them sliding off during service.
Style: American Federal / Hepplewhite
Maker: Thomasville Furniture Industries, Thomasville, North Carolina

Price Note: Comparable Thomasville Hepplewhite mahogany sideboards in this configuration — 66" wide with brass gallery — are actively selling in the $2,000–$3,500 range on the secondary market. This piece is priced squarely at fair market value for what it is: a large-scale, well-made American Federal reproduction in excellent decorative condition.
