Evolution Home Celebrates One Year in its Alexandria West End Location on South Pickett Street

We're celebrating our one year anniversary in our latest location at 861 S. Pickett Street in Alexandria’s West End. Now in our 24th year of business, owner Susan Driscoll attributes Evolution Home’s success to “the enormous variety of high-quality vintage and antique items we offer through our 25 dealers and consignment inventory.”

In 1999, Susan Driscoll, along with husband, Lee Blount, first opened their store in Del Ray— known at that time as Potomac West Interiors and Antique Gallery. During the past 24 years, the store has occupied several storefront locations in Del Ray, a building at the intersection of Route 1 and Shields Avenue that was once home to a bowling alley, and now its current location in Alexandria’s West end (between Aslin Beer Company and the Habitat for Humanity Restore) on South Pickett Street.

Shop Sustainably at Evolution Home

Evolution Home provides customers a way to shop sustainably by purchasing pre-loved furniture and home decor — both online and in the store. "Quality furniture certainly has the potential to take a place of importance, practicality, and passion through many hands and homes in its lifespan and life chapters," according to Driscoll. "Those who possess these cherished pieces, if only temporarily, pass them on to another who is served by its function and beauty."

Just as our name suggests, Evolution Home’s goal is to serve customers as their lives, homes, tastes, and budgets evolve over time. “Small apartments, first-time homes, forever homes, homes with kids, homes with dogs, empty nests, and retirement dream homes – as we move through each stage of life, our styles, tastes, and budgets change,” says Driscoll. “We are committed to providing high quality furniture and decor to our customers and that same level of service to our consignors.”

As our customers’ homes evolve, we are able to help them as they furnish their homes for the first time, update their homes in keeping with design trends that inspire them, and also work with them as they are downsizing. “We currently have 200 active consignors,” explains Driscoll. “Our in-store Consignment Team processes anywhere from 125 to 200 pieces of furniture and home decor each week. So customers are guaranteed to see something new every time they come in the store, browse our consignment inventory for sale on our website, and follow us on social media.”

Our Dealers Bring Something Special to Evolution Home

In addition to our inventory of consigned furniture and home decor, Evolution Home has 25 independent dealers, who sell everything from vintage clothing and jewelry to antique, vintage, and modern furniture, rugs, lighting, art, and other home decor. If you are looking for a special piece from the Art Nouveaux, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Danish Modern, or Mid Century Modern eras, one of our dealers is likely to have the perfect piece you’ve been searching for. In addition, many of our dealers specialize in selling antique and vintage items from Asia.

“We’re a global marketplace located right here in Alexandria — without the supply chain hassles,” says Driscoll. “I think this is a big part of the reason why we’ve been named best antique and consignment shop by local publications like the Alexandria Times and Zebra Press.”
